Yoga has been such a phenomena over the last many years now that it has become an industry in its own right. Not only are there countless stores and places where yoga accessories are available but you can find yoga books and DVDs in book stores and Video stores respectively. They are not the ideal way to get things started. The preferred option should be to get a know yoga first hand with a yoga instructor and then if you are for any reason not able to attend class switch to books and DVDs for help.
These DVDs and books no doubt are very informative when it comes to Yoga theory but knowing practical Yoga and applying it is a totally different ball game. The reason for this is because yoga is such a direct form of exercise that needs precision and requires attention and extreme detail.
Yoga not only demands your physical side of things but also spiritual aspect. Something which is not that well portrayed when it comes to DVDs and books. A good example is in yoga when you execute a pose; it demands that you counter pose to offset its effect on the body. This is essential to balance the effects of whatever pose you may be executing. These are things that most people don't mention when viewing Books and DVD’s on Yoga.
Yoga books and DVDs have huge amount of information and guidelines but they should be avoided in the initial phase so that the learner gets to learn the spiritual part and then get to these tools.
