Pilates is the physical fitness exercise system that focuses mainly on developing the core abdominal and back muscle along with lengthening and stabilizing of the spine. This is done to achieve and maintain perfect body. This includes the alignment and posture of the body. This exercise form was founded by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s and is inspired from the ancient Yoga postures.
Pilates is not as thorough a system as yoga but the objective is still the same to get in a better health, the fitness goals are more or less the same as Yoga. Pilates are done through a series of controlled movements and breathing regulation. It is particularly effective for aesthetic body sculpting and makes you feel and look, lean, svelte but tall as well.
Pilates is the combination of certain yoga exercises using an exercise gear, mostly the Pilates machine, for specific purposes – i.e., core strength development, perfect body alignment and posture. In a way Pilates helps in assisting yoga as the gear used (the Pilates machine) makes these exercises much easier to learn and more fun to perform. The basic of Pilates is on concentration, control, breathing and precision. Also like yoga one’s own body weight is used for resistance and strength development.
Although Pilates and Yoga appear fairly similar however, Pilates highlights just a tiny aspect of the vast discipline of Yoga, where Pilates focuses on getting the physical shape in harmony, Yoga lays emphasis on uniting the mind, body and spirit. depending upon your patience level and the goals you have set for yourself: just physical fitness and a svelte figure or all that plus long-lasting inner peace and happiness.
